What are the differences between CE certification bodies recognized by China and the EU

Jul 03, 2024

CE certification is the EU's product conformity certification, which is used to identify products that meet the requirements of European regulations. In China, there is also a similar certification body - CCAP, the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. Although the two certification systems have similar goals, there are some differences in the specific implementation and management methods. There are differences in certification standards and processes. The EU's CE certification is a self-declaration system, that is, product suppliers evaluate their products on their own and mark the CE mark. The EU certification body conducts spot checks and market supervision on products, and is responsible for reviewing and verifying the compliance of suppliers. In China, CCAP certification adopts an approval system, that is, product suppliers need to submit applications to CCAP, accept review and testing, and CCAP decides whether the product is qualified and issues a certification certificate. The scope of recognition and market access requirements are also different. CE certification is an access requirement for the European market, applicable to a range of products involving safety, health and environmental protection. CCAP certification applies to the Chinese market and covers a wider range of products. In addition to safety, health and environmental protection, China's certification requirements also include technical performance and applicability. There are also differences in the management and supervision of certification bodies.

The EU's CE certification is audited and certified by a certification body designated by the European Commission and is supervised by the European Commission. China's CCAP certification body is designated and supervised by the China National Accreditation Service, and is assisted in implementation by provincial accreditation bodies. Although both CE and CCAP certifications are certification bodies used to ensure that products meet relevant requirements, there are some obvious differences in certification standards, processes, scope of accreditation, and management methods. Understanding these differences is very important for exporting companies and companies that want to enter the Chinese market.
